The Studio

The Atkinson Piano Studio was founded by Lizbeth Atkinson in 1992. Lizbeth is a graduate of Brigham Young University with a degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy. She studied with Dr. Doug Humpherys who is now at the Eastman School of Music. Lizbeth set up the first studio in Rochester, New York and became very active in the musical community.

Lizbeth is a nationally certified teacher of music through the Music Teachers' National Association. She served on the board of the Central East District of the Ohio Music Teachers Association as Vice President of Student Competitions, Vice President of Student Activities, Chairman of District Festival, Chairman of the Graves Piano Competition and Chairman of Summer Camp on the Student Activities Committee. She currently serves as Piano Workshops Chairman.  She serves on the Ohio Music Teachers Association Board as Vice President of Student Activities.  She won the Certified Teacher of the Year Award in 2015 in the Central East District of the Ohio Music Teachers Association and for the State of Ohio. Lizbeth is a member of The National Federation of Music Teachers and served as the Chairman for five years. She is a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers and serves as a judge in various areas throughout the United States.

Lizbeth's teaching style is classical. Areas of study include: theory, technical exercises, rhythm training, sight reading, ear training and playing by ear. Students maintain at least one classical piece at all times and are encouraged to add a piece from another style.

Students have the opportunity to participate in two recitals per year to be held at Graves Piano and Organ. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the MTNA events, National Federation and Royal Conservatory of Music exams.

The studio features a 5'7" Weber Grand piano situated in a quiet setting. Attractions such as Kingsdale Shopping Center, Tremont Shopping Center, and the Upper Arlington Public Library along with local parks make this a great location for parents to drop off their children for lessons and enjoy the Upper Arlington area.
